Stainless Steel 904L Round Bars

Grade Introduction

Stainless Steel 904L is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel with exceptional resistance to corrosion, especially in aggressive environments. It contains a high level of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, providing superior resistance to acids and chloride stress corrosion cracking.

Grade Application:

  • Chemical processing equipment
  • Marine environments
  • Oil and gas industry
  • Pharmaceutical industry
  • Heat exchangers

Thermal Properties:

Properties Value
Maximum Operating Temperature (°C/°F) 400°C (752°F)
Thermal Conductivity (W/m-K) 14.6
Specific Heat (J/kg-K) 500

Forging Properties:

Forge Stainless Steel 904L within a temperature range of 1100-1200°C (2012-2192°F). A typical reduction ratio is about 4:1. Post-forging heat treatment is necessary to relieve stress and achieve the desired properties.

Stress Relieving:

For stress relieving, heat Stainless Steel 904L to a temperature range of 1050-1150°C (1922-2102°F) for 1-2 hours. Follow with slow cooling to stabilize the material and minimize residual stresses.
