Stainless Steel 317 is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel known for its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-rich environments. It is an upgrade from 316 stainless steel with higher molybdenum content, enhancing its performance in aggressive environments.
Properties | Value |
Maximum Operating Temperature (°C/°F) | 870°C (1600°F) |
Thermal Conductivity (W/m-K) | 15.3 |
Specific Heat (J/kg-K) | 500 |
Forge Stainless Steel 317 at temperatures between 1050-1150°C (1922-2102°F). The typical reduction ratio is about 4:1. Post-forging, heat treatment is recommended to relieve stresses and achieve the desired mechanical properties.
For stress relieving, heat Stainless Steel 317 to a temperature range of 1040-1160°C (1900-2120°F) for 1-2 hours. After heating, slow cooling is advised to stabilize the material and avoid introducing new stresses.
